Artist's Bio I was born in 1954, the same year as rock n' roll and Godzilla. Growing up in the dying factory town of Easthampton, Massachusetts, I was no different than any other kid raised on The Beatles and MAD magazine. At age 17, I graduated from high school and spent the next three years studying illustration, drawing, and printmaking at the Art Institute of Boston, where I graduated with a Fine Arts diploma in 1975. After art school, I worked as a custodian and also painted murals. A series of fortunate events employing my skills as a cartoonist/illustrator became on-the-job opportunities to learn graphic design and publishing. In 1981, I returned to western Massachusetts where I was employed by a South Deerfield publisher of safety-information and health-education booklets. I became connected to the creative community of the Pioneer Valley through art and music --musically, as a bassist in various area bar bands-- artistically, as a member of The Western Massachusetts Illustrators' Guild and The Northfield Arts Group. Northfield, Massachusetts is where I call home now. My art-school sweetheart and oil-painter wife and I raised our two sons here, and now live with our two cats in an old farmhouse just off the main street. Kevin slatts Slattery Bio page |
